ABSTRACT
Sports participation is essential for enhancing physical and mental health, particularly among adolescents. Understanding the motivations behind sports engagement is crucial for promoting consistent involvement. The present study investigates the factors influencing sports participation among adolescents aged 14-18, examining whether these motivations vary by age or gender. Sport Motivation Scale-6 (SMS-6) by (Mallett, Kawabata, and Newcombe, 2007) survey was administered to 61 participants, divided between the 14-16 and 17-18 age groups, with a balanced representation of genders. Using a 29-question Likert scale questionnaire, the study found no significant differences in motivational factors based on age or gender, suggesting that motivations for participating in sports are broadly consistent across these demographics. These insights can help coaches, educators, and policymakers develop more effective strategies to foster sustained sports involvement, thereby supporting improved physical and mental well-being among youth.
